Classes are offered periodically and will show in the list of events here. A description of the some of the SummerNy classes are shown below. All classes are WITH DOGS, include a handout, and have specific exercises designed especially for the class. The progress you will make is amazing. Unlike a regular clinic, the class is designed to teach a specific behavior in you and your dog. Everyone on the class is working on the same behavior and does the same exercise so you can truly learn by watching.
Classes are limited to 4 dogs on Wednesdays and 8 dogs on Sundays. Unlimited auditing. (Auditing is half the class cost).

Competitive Herding

Finally a class that explains everything you need to know about entering ta herding trial, the different venues, titles and an overview of the rules of each. You will get the information then apply it and use it as you judge your fellow class attendees. Everything about how to read a flyer, entering a trial and how to check your results.

Foundation Classes
With Dogs
Once your dog understands you are in charge of the hunt, things exponentially improve. It's not about winning a fight, it's about becoming a calm and effective leader. Great class for those just starting and for those who still find themselves arguing with their dog about who is driving the bus. Full day class.
Sorting and Small Pen Work
Small pen work is an amazing tool to use for getting a dog used to presssure, teaching them to keep the stock calm and to learn patience. This step by step method will have you getting your own sheep out and sorting like a pro! And the dogs love it!
Timing is Everything
Praise, corrections, and movement all play an important part in herding. The timing of these is critical to maximize learning. Praise too soon and you teach the wrong ting; correct too late and you won;t change behavior. This class is designed with a number of exercises to help you nail the timing of your training to gain progress exponentially!
Navigating Obstacles
There is an art to making sure the livestock get throught he obsatcles everytime. In this class, you will put sheep and geese through a variety of obstacles including single lane chutes, y chutes and the pen.
AKC Course A (Ducks and Geese)
Learn the fine art of herding ducks and geese! Most people find these feathered creatures hard to learn but this one day class will help you understand the dynamics of how ducks and geese think and how to get you and your dog working as a team.
Introduction to Driving
This is a must for those who are just starting to drive and feel as though they are learning herding all over again! This class features a brief lecture followed by a series of exercises for you and your dog to work on specific behaviors. This is a class you can attend multiple times and get something new each time!
